What else will you need?

First Aid Training

When applying for your licence you will be required to produce evidence that you have attained a recognised first aid award. You should present your valid first aid certificate to your training provider before you start your training. If you do not have a recognised first aid award you will need to get one in order to get your licence. This is in addition to the minimum 138 hours knowledge and practical skills training.

First aid awards recognised by the SIA are:

•First Aid at Work - 4 day course (HSE approved)

•First Person on Scene (FPOS) Intermediate Award - 30 hours edexel / IHCD)


Additional and advanced training

Additional and advanced training are offered for all our courses which includes the Following:

Fire arms training

Advanced Driving

Self Defence

VIP Protection Skills

Advanced First Aid (FAITHE ) First Aid In Hostile environments

Annual refreshers and updates


Course content

To Qualify

To qualify for a license you will need to satisfy three requirements:

 1) Pass an identity check

 2) Pass a criminal records check

 3) Possess a recognised Close Protection qualification


To get this qualifications and licensing you will need to attend and take two training modules and take and pass an exam. The training should take 138 hours

Who is this qualification for?

The Level 3 qualification is designed for those who wish to work in the industry and is awarded to those who pass one examination covering the basic knowledge and responsibilities of the occupation, and multiple practical demonstrations and a portfolio of evidence. This nationally recognised qualification is the industry standard and enables a Close Protection Officer to apply for a license to practice.

Working As a Close Protection Operative

Close Protection Level 3

(This course is for serious professionals only it is not an attendance course)

The SIA issues licenses to Close Protection Operatives (body guards) who meet their criteria. In the interests of the industry as a whole and in support of its license to practice, the SIA invited awarding organisations to develop a qualification to meet this demand.


In order to obtain an SIA licence you will need to show that you are trained to the right level.
